by Bob Wright
2001/02/27

Here's a trick to let you permantenly change the file associations for any type of file. (ex.  You want to open a bitmap *.bmp with Internet Explorer instead of paintbrush)

Steps:

  1. Open my computer

  2. Find a file type you want to change (ex. dog.bmp)

  3. Highlight the file

  4. Hold the shift key and press the right mouse button

  5. The "Open with" option should appear

  6. Select the new program you want to use to ope the file (ex. iexplore)

  7. Check off the "Always use this program to open this type of file" option
