We have avoided this topic like that bore you
meet at a party and you cannot seem to shake. Why? Windows 2000 is
not intended as a client operating system for the average home
user. The price alone tells you that, at over 2 ½ times the
cost of Windows95/98. Windows 2000 is designed for
corporate LANs, for major workgroups and for IT professionals to
install. We have stated that over and over, we have tried
repeatedly to explain to normal users that Windows Millennium is
coming, the intended upgrade for Windows95/98. But, it seems to
fall on deaf ears, with more and more people shelling out the
coins for Windows 2000, only to come to PCBUILD or PCSOFT with
problem after problem installing it.
We
should also point out that Microsoft Whistler is now in Beta
testing. Whistler is the next Microsoft Operating System
and it will be the upgrade for all older Microsoft Operating
Systems. Whistler is the future.
So what do we do?
We accept it, we write a basic install guide to help and
hope that possibly we can save a few people the brain-drain
involved in installing Windows 2000. If you are an advanced user
or an IT professional, do not expect to find anything advanced
in this guide. I am writing it based on the one person, one PC
model for Windows 2000 Professional Edition, in the hopes of
solving many issues before they begin. Will this be simple? Will
it be easy enough for anyone to understand? Well, we can only
hope.
